Around Friday 8/7, we are going to upgrading the cluster for the next academic year. Our chief goal will be to deploy the new FSC system on all of the nodes and take the leap to uboot bootloader.

Let me know if there are any deadlines around the time that I am forgetting!

Quick reminder:

Saturday at NOON we are upgrading the cluster.  This means pulling every node from the racks, opening the cases, upgrading the memory, adding SATA PCI cards, adding disks, reassembling the case, putting the nodes back in the racks.  And we’re not done then!  We’ll wire a 3-ary 4-cube for all 64 nodes.

Just a head’s up:  we are going to be doing lab maintenance on this weekend.  Homer will be unavailable from 5pm on Friday March 6th until the work is finished … probably Saturday evening.

When the lab comes back, there will be changes to the firewall as well.  When you ssh to rcs.uncc.edu, it will take you to *hertz* rather than marge.

Finally, Friday/Saturday we are going to upgrade the cluster!  We will be installing SATA drives, upgrading the memory, and rewiring the topology.  Come join the fun.  There will be lots of screws to turn!

Hi All!

The University is on 2-hour delay.  Unfortunately, my son’s pre-school is closed all day.

Let’s plan on having our normal Reading Group (and Group Meeting) starting at 3:00pm in WH 244 today.  We may have a special guest joining us!

Just a quick reminder that today we have our group meeting at 4:00pm in the department conference room (244 WH) . (It immediately follows the HPC Reading Group so if you are not in the reading group, be aware that if we finish early, we will start the weekly meeting.)

Hi Everyone,

I will be teaching on Mon/Wed all afternoon (two back-to-back classes).  We can either have our weekly meeting on Friday mornings, Monday mornings, or perhaps, Tuesday afternoons.  Let me know your schedules below.

Also, we need to schedule a time for the Readings in High Performance Computing meeting.  Whether you are enrolled or not, if you are planning to attend, please suggest a time.  I have a long list of papers I’d like to get through this semester, so we will be very busy!

Finally, I think Thursday will be our individual meeting day.  You may want to pick a 20 minute spot at this time.

Hello All,

I just wanted to remind everyone that the ML-310 nodes will be unavailable starting on Wednesday November 26, 2008.  I am going to do a major upgrade to the FSC software.  I want to make sure that everything is stable for the Spring semester.  So if you need access to the Virtex II Pro parts, let me know ASAP.
